012_Blissful.jpgDeep Tissue Massage is for those who need some serious work.  Rather than looking for a relaxing experience, with a soft touch, some people want a deep, intensely therapeutic experience.

For Deep Tissue Massage you lie on a massage table under a sheet with little or no clothing on. Professional standards of draping are employed, covering all of the body except the section being massaged. Small amounts of quality massage oils and creams are used so that your skin is nourished but there is less glide and more depth achieved.  Most people prefer to be quiet during their Deep Tissue Massage, but I will follow your lead, if you feel like visiting, I will.

Massage is a very personal experience, with each person's needs being unique.  In fact, the same person may need very different massage for different sessions.  That is why at Blissful Body Massage and Bodywork your session is tailored to you.  Time is taken each session to discuss what is going on in your body and what kind of massage experience you prefer.  Each client is encouraged to give direct feedback, so adjustment can be made.

You can feel secure when you receive Deep Tissue Massage at Blissful Body Massage and Bodywork, because I have excellent training and a lot of experience doing deep work.  The advanced training I have accumulated over the years insures that you will not be harmed by the deep work.

Deep Tissue Massage can be a general tune-up over the whole body, or targeted for injury or especially tense areas.  Frequently clients need a full session on the upper body, as working at a desk or computer, portaging canoes, or other activities overuse the arms and back.  Some may prefer focused work on hips, legs, knees, ankles or feet.  A full session could be used for the neck, head, face, and shoulders.  Or any combination you prefer.

Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions:

  • Chronic pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Postural problems
  • Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Sciatica
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Tennis elbow
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle tension or spasm
  • After a workout or bodybuilding

Consumer Reports magazine reported in the August 2005 issue that 34,000 people ranked deep tissue massage more effective in relieving osteoarthritis pain than physical therapy, exercise, prescription medications, chiropractic, acupuncture, diet, glucosamine and over-the-counter drugs.

Deep tissue massage also received a top ranking for fibromyalgia pain. People often notice improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage.
